A Comparative Study on the Undergraduate Curriculum of Geography Department in Western European Countries: Focusing on French, German, and UK Universities

서유럽 주요 3국 지리학과 학부 교육과정 체제와 교과목 구성에 관한 비교 연구: 프랑스･독일･영국 대학을 중심으로

Abstract

Recently, the curriculum of universities has required not only to pursue academic truth but also to be socially practical with neoliberalism. This study compared and analyzed the undergraduate curriculum of geography departments in European universities according to social change, focusing on French, German, and UK universities. The curriculum of European universities is evolving in two directions to meet social needs. First of all, European universities are implementing policies to unify university academic systems and earned credit systems in accordance with the EU's social integration policy. And the curriculum of the geography departments of each country is diversifying, being practical, and specializing to meet social needs. Despite the policy of unifying the academic systems of European universities, the curriculum of the geography of each country differs due to the historical background of the development of geography.

최근 대학의 교육과정 체계와 교과목 구성은 경영주의와 신자유주의 논리의 적용으로 진리를 탐구하는 학문의 궁극적 목적과 더불어 사회적 실용성이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 프랑스, 독일, 영국 등 서유럽 주요 3국을 중심으로 사회적 요구에 부응하기 위한 유럽 대학 지리학과 학부 교육과정 체계와 교과목 구성을 비교 분석하였다. 유럽 ​​대학의 교육과정 체계와 교과목 구성은 사회적 요구에 부응하기 위해 두 가지 방향으로 전개되고 있다. 우선, 유럽 대학은 유럽연합의 사회적 통합정책에 따라 유럽 대학 간 이동성 확대를 위해 대학 학제와 이수학점 제도를 통일하는 정책을 시행하고 있다. 그리고 각국의 지리학과는 신자유주의 논리의 사회적 요구에 부응하기 위해 교육과정 체계와 교과목 구성을 다양화, 실용화, 전문화하고 있다. 유럽 대학의 학제 시스템 통일정책에도 불구하고 서유럽 주요 3국 지리학과의 교육과정 체계와 교과목 구성은 지리학 발달의 역사적 배경으로 인해 차이를 보인다.
