Plant Closure of Multinational Corporation and Geographical and Industrial Movement of Unemployed Workers : A Case Study of GM Gunsan Plant

다국적 기업의 공장폐쇄와 실직노동자의 지리적･산업적 이동: 한국GM 군산공장을 사례로

Abstract

This study analyzed the plant closure of multinational corporation and the geographical and industrial movement of unemployed workers with the case of GM Gunsan plant. The research results are as follows. First of all, the number of unemployed workers increased significantly due to the closure of GM Gunsan plant, and the re-employment rate of unemployed workers decreased remarkably due to the deterioration of the local employment market. And the re-employment area of unemployed workers was Gunsan-si before the closure. but after the closure, re-employment in Gunsan-si decreased, and re-employment in neighboring areas and other areas increased. The re-employment industry of unemployed workers was the same industry before the closure, but after the closure, re-employment in the same industry decreased and re-employment in heterogeneous industries increased.

본 연구는 한국GM 군산공장을 사례로 다국적 기업의 공장폐쇄와 실직노동자의 지리적･산업적 이동에 대해 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선, 한국GM 군산공장 폐쇄로 실직노동자가 크게 증가하였고, 실직노동자의 지역 내 재취업률은 지역고용시장의 악화로 현저히 감소하였다. 그리고 실직노동자의 재취업지역은 폐쇄 이전에는 양호한 지역고용시장으로 실직지역인 지역 내 재취업이 많았으나, 폐쇄 이후 지역 내 재취업은 크게 감소하고 인접지역과 기타지역에서의 재취업이 증가하였다. 실직노동자의 취업업종은 폐쇄 이전에는 동종업종의 재취업이 많았으나 폐쇄 이후 동종업종의 재취업은 감소하고 이종업종에서의 재취업이 증가하였다.
