Negative Urban Amenity: An Explorative Research 빼기의 도시 쾌적성: 탐색적 연구

Abstract

In Clark(2003)’s research, a person moving to beach area to surf is being emphasized. It describes urban amenity only in additive terms. Naturally the approach does not explain reality in its entirety. This research argues the existence of “negative” urban amenity. Review of the past research also corroborates this paper’s more comprehensive approach. Ebenezer Howard’s garden city concept is based on the magnet metaphor pulling and pushing. Yellow dust originating from China is also a negative urban amenity, which is risk to Ulrich Beck. Exert survey results also corroborates this paper’s claims.

이 연구는 ‘빼기’의 도시 쾌적성의 존재를 고찰하고자 한다. 클라크(Clark, 2003)의 연구에서는 서핑을 하기 위해 바닷가로 이주하는 사례가 강조되었는데, 이것은 이른바 ‘더하기’의 도시 쾌적성이다. 이러한 더하기만의 도시 쾌적성은 현실에서 존재하는 빼기의 도시 쾌적성을 무시한다는 문제점을 지니고 있다. 기존 연구를 참조해 보더라도 ‘더하기’만의 도시 쾌적성은 문제가 있다. 하워드(Ebenezer Howard)의 전원도시 자석 비유에서는 밀고 당기는 두 가지의 측면을 모두 강조하고 있으며, 벡(Ulrich Beck)의 위험 사회론은 중국발 황사와 같은 빼기의 도시 쾌적성에 해당한다. 이 연구가 제시한 탐색적 전문가 설문조사 결과도 ‘빼기’의 도시 쾌적성이 존재한다는 점을 뒷받침하고 있다.
